Description
Purpose:
Under the supervision of the kitchen supervisor, this position is responsible for the entire kitchen operation at the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
- Prepare bulk recipes from scratch
- Review prep recipes prior to preparation of food
- Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties
- Assure that all food procedures are followed and executed properly
- Complete all assigned tasks & duties
- Follow all sanitation guidelines
- Clean and re-stock all areas of the operation
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
- Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
- Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
- Assist in the cleaning of the Kitchen area. This includes but is not limited to washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, washing counters, walls, and Kitchen Bathroom upkeep.
- Assist in the monitoring and instruction of the Kitchen Area Cleaning or Resident Clients assigned to that task during their Chore period.
- Maintain clear boundaries with all clients and providers.
- Other duties, as may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to communicate effectively with persons from a variety of social, cultural, socio-economic and gender identity backgrounds.
- Must ensure the agency’s ethical standards are upheld at all times.
- Experience and understanding of homeless consumer issues.
- Must exhibit proper sanitation procedures
- Effective written, verbal and listening skills. Independently initiates and responds to correspondence.
- Ability to maintain order, exercise appropriate judgment and adjust to quickly changing priorities.
- Must be able to establish effective working relationships with clients, fellow employees, providers and the general public.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Must organize work schedule, and budget time effectively.
- Understand and follow all agency policies and procedures, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
- Must have a State issued Food Handler Safety Card
- ServSafe or Equivalent training preferred
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- At least 2 years’ experience in quantity cooking and kitchens of similar size or larger.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 25 years of age
- Free of communicable disease.
- Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Random drug screenings are performed.
- Must have a current NV driver’s license and clean DMV record. Driver History Reports are required to be submitted on a quarterly basis.
Working Conditions:
Assigned duties are performed in a kitchen setting. May be subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing and pulling and simple grasping for extended periods of time.
