Description

Purpose:

Under the supervision of the kitchen supervisor, this position is responsible for the entire kitchen operation at the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center.

 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Prepare bulk recipes from scratch
  2. Review prep recipes prior to preparation of food
  3. Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties
  4. Assure that all food procedures are followed and executed properly
  5. Complete all assigned tasks & duties
  6. Follow all sanitation guidelines
  7. Clean and re-stock all areas of the operation
  8. Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
  9. Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
  10. Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
  11. Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
  12. Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
  13. Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
  14. Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  15. Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
  16. Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
  17. Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  18. Assist in the cleaning of the Kitchen area. This includes but is not limited to washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, washing counters, walls, and Kitchen Bathroom upkeep.
  19. Assist in the monitoring and instruction of the Kitchen Area Cleaning or Resident Clients assigned to that task during their Chore period.
  20. Maintain clear boundaries with all clients and providers.
  21. Other duties, as may be assigned

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must be able to communicate effectively with persons from a variety of social, cultural, socio-economic and gender identity backgrounds.
  2. Must ensure the agency’s ethical standards are upheld at all times.
  3. Experience and understanding of homeless consumer issues.
  4. Must exhibit proper sanitation procedures
  5. Effective written, verbal and listening skills.  Independently initiates and responds to correspondence.
  6. Ability to maintain order, exercise appropriate judgment and adjust to quickly changing priorities.
  7. Must be able to establish effective working relationships with clients, fellow employees, providers and the general public.
  8. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  9. Must organize work schedule, and budget time effectively.
  10. Understand and follow all agency policies and procedures, and ensure regulatory compliance.

 

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  1. Must have a State issued Food Handler Safety Card
  2. ServSafe or Equivalent training preferred
  3. Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
  4. At least 2 years’ experience in quantity cooking and kitchens of similar size or larger.
  5. High School diploma or equivalent
  6. Must be at least 25 years of age
  7. Free of communicable disease.
  8. Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.  Random drug screenings are performed.
  9. Must have a current NV driver’s license and clean DMV record.  Driver History Reports are required to be submitted on a quarterly basis.

 

Working Conditions:

Assigned duties are performed in a kitchen setting. May be subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing and pulling and simple grasping for extended periods of time.
