Status: Full Time

Reports to: SWHYC Program Supervisor

 

 

Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor, this position provides direct care services to homeless and at risk youth.

 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct daily group life-skills coaching sessions.

  2. Conduct hourly room checks to ensure all residents are complying with daily schedule requirements.

  3. Monitor on-campus activities.

  4. Supervise residents performing community service on campus.

  5. Supervise volunteers on campus when appropriate, or as required.

  6. Conduct intake and assessment procedures as required.

  7. Provide bus passes to residents as required.

  8. Complete resident discharge procedures (pack up belongings and clean out dormitory rooms) as required.

  9. Participate in staff development activities.

  10. Answer phones and take messages when working inside administrative area.

  11. Enforce all HELP rules and standards.

  12. Provide direct supervision of all residents during assigned shift. Maintain and complete the hourly log.

  13. Report all program violations within 24 hours of the incident.

  14. Provides crisis intervention as needed.

  15. Supervises residents’ ingestion of prescribed and over the counter medications and documents medication compliance.

  16. Completes all required paperwork and logs, including incident reports, runaway reports and resident tracking log.

  17. Provides transportation to appointments when necessary.

  18. Supervises residents while completing daily chores.

  19. Assist residents at meal time to ensure equal distribution of food.

  20. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of local social service agencies and programs as they pertain to homeless and at risk youth.

  2. Knowledge of applicable statutes, ordinances and codes.

  3. Experience and understanding of homeless at risk youth issues.

  4. Communicate effectively with persons from a variety of social, cultural and sensitivity to culturally diverse populations.

  5. Effective written, verbal and listening skills. Independently initiates and responds to correspondence.

  6. Ability to maintain order and exercise appropriate judgment in crisis situations.

  7. Is flexible and can adjust to shifting priorities.

  8. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents, follow employees, other agencies and the general public.

  9. Organize work schedule and budget time.

  10. Understand and follow all agency policies and procedures.

  11. General computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office software.

  12. Ability to work flexible hours as required by resident case load.

Qualifications, Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or GED

  2. 2 years of experience working with homeless or at risk youth.

  3. Must have Health Card, Negative TB Test, current CPR/First Aid and pre-employment physical.

  4. Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug test. Random drug screening is performed.

  5. Must have a valid Nevada driver’s license and clean DMV record. Driver History Reports are required to be submitted on a quarterly basis.
